There is quite an interest in container homes right now, and for good reasons. There are millions of unused containers around the world and these sturdy structures can be transformed into living spaces that are easily transferrable. Bonnifait + Giesen Atelierworkshop have developed this prototype, now on permanent display at Puke Ariki Museum, New Plymouth. New Zealand.

This particular design has a fold-up exterior shell and is perfectly suited for a vacation home or as a permanent dwelling. It would be great for student housing too, don’t you think? While this is just a prototype, Bonnifait + Giesen Atelierworkshop is accepting commissions to design customized container building solutions. It will be interesting to see how this project develops. What do you think: could you live full time in a container home? Photos by Paul McCredie.
